These words spoken by King Kamehameha III on July 31, 1843 are the Hawai'i state moto and continue to guide our efforts to live in harmony with our planet. As we celebrate Earth Day, we give respect to the ancient Hawaiian values and truths that inspire our work at Honey Girl Organics.
Living and working on this beautiful island of Oahu is a gift that each and every one of us treasure. So, it’s only right that we give back to the land and community that provides the milk and honey that feed our bodies and spirits.
It is with this in mind that the owners of Honey Girl Organics recently gathered our crew at Loko Ea fishpond just down the hill from our creamery. Loko Ea is a rare, significant cultural site nestled on Oʻahu’s North Shore. It is one of the ancient Hawaiian fishponds used as “living refrigerators for the people who once lived solely from the land.” These fishponds sustained the community by providing healthy food as well as a place to gather and connect on the sacred land we share. It was an honor and gift to spend our Aloha Friday helping to restore this beautiful fishpond, putting into practice our Mālama Honua.

MĀLAMA HONUA
is the Hawaiian word for stewardship. Honua translates as Earth. Islanders fondly refer to Mālama Honua as “caring for our island earth.” Even though Hawaii is the most remote island chain in the world, we’re very aware that the actions we take here, ripple out across the ocean to the entire planet.
HO‘OHANA
To work with intent and with purpose. Ho'ohana is an attitude of intention and presence in whatever you do. Honey Girl employees are mindful to instill Aloha into every step of the process of making our skin care products. Today we shifted that focus to tend to the land, water, and plantlife that not only provide the ingredients for our products, they provide the building blocks for a healthy, beautiful life!
KĀKOU
When we speak of “Kakou,” we speak in the language of “we.” This Hawaiian word informs us to think, act, and work with an attitude of inclusiveness; we're all better for it, and so is our planet. Afterall, the one thing we all have in common is this planet, our home.

The land we live on is sacred and by gaining a deeper understanding of it’s history, culture and ecosystem, we strengthen our connection to it. We appreciate the guidance of the Loko Ea team leaders, who shared their insights and knowledge with our Honey Girl Team.
LŌKAHI
The value of teamwork: collaboration and cooperation. Harmony and unity. Our Honey Girl Team knows we can accomplish more together. It brought great satisfaction to see the power of lōkahi, when our crew was able to clear an entire waterway so Loko Ea could be refreshed with the ocean tides.

The value of leadership. Lead with initiative, and guide by example.
Anthony, Gwen and Christina, the owners of Honey Girl Organics are committed to promoting green beauty and wellness. Christina explains, “Recognizing our bodies are a part of the natural system, not separate from it is a fundamental shift in how we proactively care for ourselves and the planet.” This perspective was the impetus for the creation of Honey Girl Organics. Respect, appreciation and love for honeybees, plants and all of nature is at the center of all we do.
