HGO'S GUIDE TO DOUBLE CLEANSING

HGO'S GUIDE TO DOUBLE CLEANSING

WHAT IS DOUBLE CLEANSING?

As the name implies, double cleansing involves cleansing your face twice! The method suggests cleansing first with an oil-based cleanser which will dissolve makeup and other 'gunk' you don't want to be left on your face. Next, you follow with a foam/cream cleanser which will remove any leftover impurities and deeply cleanse pores. You will need two different formulas to properly and thoroughly cleanse your face.

WHY DOUBLE CLEANSE?

The philosophy behind double cleansing is that stubborn impurities like heavy makeup (or even light makeup, if worn every day), sunscreen and environmental toxins work their way into the pores in such a way that they cannot be properly removed with a quick wash or wipe with a cleaning cloth. When left on the skin, even in tiny amounts, those impurities can lead to premature signs of aging, acne, irritation, and dullness. Cleansing twice gives you the ability to get your skin really clean, without stripping it of essential moisture. The first cleanse is all about removing the dirt, grime, and excess oils from the surface of the skin, and the second cleanse is done to thoroughly purify and cleanse pores. The ultimate benefit of double cleansing is that clean skin better absorbs all the regenerating and hydrating ingredients in serums and moisturizers, so your skincare routine will be more effective.

WHEN TO DOUBLE CLEANSE?

We prefer to double cleanse in the evening when the buildup of the days makeup, sunscreens, sweat, pollution, and toxins is heaviest. Nighttime is also when your skin reboots and has time to rest, so a really clean surface gives your night-time skincare products the ability to absorb deeper and work better.

WHAT CLEANSERS TO USE?

It's important to find cleansers that work with your skin type. Double cleansing can possibly lead to dryer skin if done wrong! Its best to use an oil-based cleanser as your first step to gently but thoroughly dissolve what’s on the top layer. Second, use your normal daily foam or cream cleanser, whichever one you've found suits your skin type best.

STEP 1: USING AN OIL-BASED CLEANSER

Many people with oily and acne-prone skin tend to avoid oil-based cleansers. However, it’s a myth that oil products cause breakouts. The reality is oil-based cleansers actually restore the natural pH of your skin and normalize sebum glands that when overworked - cause an overproduction of oil. It is this overproduction of oil by stressed sebum glands that can clog pores, stimulate inflammation and cause breakouts.

A good oil-based cleanser will remove makeup, lift debris and dissolve excess oils into the cleansing oil. It’s important to use a warm washcloth to effectively remove the cleanser which will have absorbed the dirt and grime from surface skin.

The HGO botanically based USDA Organic Facial Cleanser & Makeup Remover is an ideal choice for an oil-based cleanser; it’s gentle on skin, but removes stubborn makeup and dirt while leaving your skin hydrated and glowing!

STEP 2: USING A FOAM CLEANSER

After removing your makeup and the day’s buildup of pollutants and grime with the oil-based cleanser, use a foaming facial wash, gel, or cream cleanser to remove any last traces of dirt, makeup, sweat, and debris. This kind of cleanser will provide a 'deeper' cleanse and ensure all toxins are removed from pores. It's important to use a cleanser that is suitable for your skin type and does not strip your skin of its natural protective moisture.

The HGO Foaming Facial Wash is soap and sulfite-free. Organic witch hazel, organic raw Hawaiian honey, and organic propolis extract are combined with plant-ingredients including organic essential oils and aloe vera gel to thoroughly cleanse pores leaving skin healthy and recharged. Skin will feel refreshed and hydrated with a light scent of neroli & sweet orange.

HGO's Step-by-step Double Cleansing Guide

  • First, pump 1-2 pumps of the Facial Cleanser & Makeup Remover into the palm of your hands. Gently but firmly massage onto moist face in circular motions with fingertips, to ensure you are loosening up all makeup and debris. The HGO Facial Cleanser & Makeup Remover also dissolves mascara and eye makeup!
  • Focus on the area around the nose, the cheeks, chin, and forehead and massage in a circular motion. This will boost microcirculation, and bring oxygen into the skin to give it a healthy glow.
  • Use a warm damp washcloth to wipe dirt and excess oils away after cleansing.
  • While the skin is still damp, apply 1-2 pumps of the Foaming Facial Wash to the whole face. Massage lightly and allow the product to penetrate the skin. Avoid contact with eyes.
  • Rinse thoroughly with warm water and pat dry.
  • Follow with HGO Facial Toner and your favorite HGO serum & creams
