The Women Behind Honey Girl

The Women Behind Honey Girl

March 8 is International Women's Day, a day devoted to celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. And while we believe women should be celebrated every day, we're taking this opportunity to highlight the strong ladies behind our skincare.

The Women Behind Honey Girl

Did you know that Honey Girl Organics is majority-owned and operated by women? That's right! From our founders to our day-to-day business operations, 80% of HGO employees are female.

It all started in 1998 when two of HGO's co-founders, Christina Sirlin and Gwen Maxfield, realized that what you put on your body is just as important as what you put in it. In an effort to live a healthier lifestyle, they began their search for the perfect, chemical-free skincare products to add to their routines.

At the same time, Gwen's husband and HGO's third co-founder, Anthony Maxfield, had taken on beekeeping and begun the yearly honey harvest. Gwen soon discovered that his hands had become much softer and smoother throughout this process. She wanted those smooth hands for her very sensitive skin and asked her husband if he could help, so Anthony started his experiments, making beeswax and honey into a skin cream. After many renditions and broken blenders, he developed organic skincare that was incredibly effective at enhancing the condition of our skin.

A few years later, the trio took a sample to their local health food store to see if they'd be interested in the product coming to market. The response was positive, and the rest is history!

Today, Christina, Gwen, and Anthony continue to create products inspired by women for women (and men, too!)

Fun fact: The first product created was the Cuticle & Nail Crème!
